Description
Circa 1890, very unusual and stylish Victorian bovine and steel table top dinner gong. The circular gong has small chains attached to a metal finial which is encased into a curved cow horn. The base of the horn again is encased in metal with its stylish top. The whole piece is fixed to a rectangular oak plinth with ogee moulding and open fretwork brass brackets on 3 corners. There is a small Heraldic style shield in the centre. It has a hallmark with a flag and WH which indicates it has been made by Walker & Hall of Sheffield, one of the top UK companies for Sheffield and EPNS. There are 2 small steel upright arms which hold a small oak beater.
