Description
Circa 1900. A quality two-piece walnut, Geo II style, bureau on stand. The top in beautiful, figured walnut with herring-bone and cross banding, the flap with similar walnut, with a shaped cast brass escutcheon. The flap opens to reveal a well-fitted interior with various pigeon holes, drawers and a small cupboard. The concave drawer beneath flanked by a pair of lopers, with axe head drops and classic Georgian handles. Beneath the top two drawers is a deep stylish moulding, the base section has a full-length drawer with similar handles, with a shaped and curved apron on the front and sides. The bureau rests on four cabriole legs with carved shells on the knees, with foliate carving beneath, finishing on a stylized foot.
