Description
Circa 1890, pair of Chinese Qing dynasty, hongmu throne chairs. The shaped top rail with carved and pierced splat, decorated with scrolling, fruit, waves and dragons, and the arms with geometric designed supports. The solid panel seat has a shaped apron, all standing on classic Chinese legs on a scrolled toe and intersected by stretchers.
Provenance: Originally the property of Edinburgh wine and spirits merchant MacDonald & Muir (established 1843), who most notably acquired The Glenmorangie Company in 1918 (makers of Glenmorangie, Glen Moray and Ardbeg whiskies).
