Description
Circa 1880, late Victorian carved oak cabinet bookcase. The stylish cornice has carved gargoyles and scratch carving of a foliate design. Beneath this are 3 glazed doors with carved capitals at the top over reeded facings. Inside are adjustable shelves, with reeded facings on the shelves similar to the beading. Beneath the doors is a flat section, over 3 drawers in the frieze which open to reveal ash liners indicating that the bookcase is Scottish. On the base there are 3 cupboard doors with fielded panels and small carved capitals between each door. Inside is a single shelf in each cupboard, and the whole piece stands on an enclosed plinth. Good storage, clean and sturdy.
