Description
Circa 1870, small and sturdy scumbled sailors kist/trunk, with a heavy set top and apron. The body has lifting handles either side and a stepped enclosed plinth. The lid opens to reveal a painted interior with the name ‘William Mitchell Banff’ and a painting of naval flags. There is also a lockable candle box inside. This would have been owned by a seafarer and would have been kept on the ship with his personal belongings. Very unusual and stylish.
