Job Description: General Manager – Georgian Antiques Edinburgh

Position Overview
Georgian Antiques, a family-run business, 10 Pattison Street, Leith Links, Edinburgh, EH6 7HF with a distinguished reputation in the antiques industry, is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable General Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the company. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of antique furniture and the antiques market, strong customer relationship management skills, and the ability to lead and support the current workforce. While the role is focused on operational excellence, the General Manager is encouraged to bring forward ideas and opportunities for growth to the owners, who will continue to handle purchasing, financial management, and overall strategy.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Operational Management
    • Ensure the seamless running of daily business operations, maintaining the high standards Georgian Antiques is known for.
    • Oversee logistics, inventory management, and sales processes to ensure efficiency and customer satisfaction.
    • Coordinate and prioritise tasks to align with business goals.
  2. Customer and Client Relationships
    • Nurture and strengthen relationships with the company’s existing customers, ensuring long-term loyalty.
    • Act as a key point of contact for clients, providing exceptional service to private buyers, interior designers, and collectors.
    • Work to identify opportunities for expanding the customer base through networking and engagement.
  3. Team Leadership
    • Lead and support the existing workforce including Cabinetmakers, French Polisher, Porters, Digital and office staff, ensuring a motivated, cohesive, and productive team.
    • Manage daily staffing requirements, scheduling, and task delegation.
    • Facilitate communication between the staff and the owners, ensuring smooth coordination and alignment with company goals.
  4. Ideas and Growth Opportunities
    • Monitor industry trends and customer preferences to identify areas for potential growth or improvement.
    • Present innovative ideas or initiatives to the owners that could enhance business operations or customer experience.
    • Collaborate with the owners to develop and implement approved projects or changes.
  5. Customer-Focused Initiatives
    • Maintain the company’s reputation for exceptional service and expertise.
    • Support the owners in promoting the business through events, exhibitions, or other customer-facing opportunities.
    • Encourage feedback from clients to continuously improve services and offerings.

Required Qualifications

  • Significant experience and knowledge of the antiques industry or a related field, with a strong understanding of furniture.
  • Proven leadership and organizational skills, with experience managing a team in a retail or customer-focused environment.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain customer relationships.
  • A proactive approach to quick problem-solving and operations management.
  • Passion for antiques and a commitment to upholding the company’s heritage and standards.

Preferred Attributes

  • Familiarity with inventory systems and retail best practices.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing or online sales platforms for antiques.
  • A network of industry contacts, including private buyers, interior designers, and collectors.
